Works at Broadway Arts

These works were on display at Broadway Center for the Arts in Belleville, Illinois, during the 2005 Belleville Art Walk (October, '05).

This was my very first public exhibit. So much has happened since I got my first taste of putting my work before the public.
Thanks, Tom Hohn, for encouraging me to exhibit.

"Every good painter paints what he is." - Jackson Pollock

Interesting notes on Pollock:

It was Jackson Pollock who blazed an astonishing trail for other Abstract Expressionist painters to follow. De Kooning said, ``He broke the ice'', an enigmatic phrase suggesting that Pollock showed what art could become with his 1947 drip paintings.

It has been suggested that Pollock was influenced by Native American sand paintings, made by trickling thin lines of colored sand onto a horizontal surface. It was not until 1947 that Pollock began his ``action'' paintings, influenced by Surrealist ideas of ``psychic automatism'' (direct expression of the unconscious). Pollock would fix his canvas to the floor and drip paint from a can using a variety of objects to manipulate the paint.

Dec, '05 Service Club Of St. Clair County

I donated these paintings to the Service Club of St. Clair County (IL) to be auctioned off at their annual fundraiser (December, '05). ...
Jennifer Rashet purchased both pieces.

"In The Garden I"

"In The Garden II"

"Nobody sees a flower, really--it is so small we haven't time, and to see takes time." -Georgia O'Keefe

Among the great American artists of the 20th-century, Georgia O'Keeffe stands as one of the most compelling. For nearly a century, O'Keeffe's representations of the beauty of the American landscape were a brave counterpoint to the chaotic images embraced by the art world. Her cityscapes and still lifes filled the canvas with wild energy that gained her a following among the critics as well as the public. Though she has had many imitators, no one since has been able to paint with such intimacy and stark precision.

Barb's "Streetscape I"

Barb Singer purchased this evocative European streetscape.

I like to think of this as a simple street scene in Italy - where I would LOVE to paint en plein air someday.

Art On The Square Holiday Boutique

Art On The Square's Holiday Unique Boutique is quite an experience. I love the location of the gallery, as it is RIGHT ON Belleville's famous "square" (that is a circle). The front door to the gallery is decorated in holiday fashion, as well as the fountain. A horse-drawn trolley stops right in front of the gallery (offers rides every 15 minutes). Only in historic Belleville!

"Vibrations" - was purchased by Belleville College District real estate developer Ronnie Phillips. "VERY BERRY" - was purchased by art patron Barb Singer. Barb also purchased "Mardi Gras.

"Winter Walk" & "Delight"

"Winter Walk On The Farm" was inspired by walks I've taken around my sister's acreage in winter ......where the buffalo now roam (yes, buffalo...no, none when I painted this from memory).

"Delight From The Garden" is a reocurring theme for me. I have images of floral colors in my mind and feel a need to capture them with my paintbrush.

St. Louis Artists Guild

The painting on right titled "SPRING STORM" was donated to the 2006 ST. LOUIS ARTIST GUILD COLLECTOR'S VI AUCTION.

225 $150 ticket holders had a chance to view the art in May and on June 4 chose which piece they desired - via lottery. I am proud to say that "SPRING STORM" was chosen 30th out of 225 paintings.

"CELEBRATE" - was placed on exhibit during the month of April by the ST. LOUIS ARTISTS GUILD in the ST. LOUIS COUNTY MAIN LIBRARY.

The piece has since been sold to my "patron of the arts," Barb Singer.

"Field Of Discovery"

This painting has an ethereal quality about it. FIELD OF DISCOVERY was auctioned off to benefit BELLEVILLE MAIN STREET in 2006.

The method of painting is the natural growth out of a need. I want to express my feelings rather than illustrate them. -Jackson Pollock

"Winter Woods"

"Winter Woods" was inspired by fall foliage near my home.

I never know what I'm going to put on the canvas. The canvas paints itself. I'm just the middleman. - Peter Max

"French Boutique"

I love the color in this painting! I'm pleased to know that it now hangs in the home of a couple in Glen Carbon, Illinois. My nephew, Scott, purchased the painting for them.

The artist is a receptacle for emotions that come from all over the place; from the sky, from the earth, from a scrap of paper, from a passing shape, from a spider’s web. -Pablo Picasso
